Machines must be decoupled from their position in an assembly line, disconnected from a host of possible utility supply lines, braced and packed all to move it ever-so-carefully out of its operating location to a place where it can be packed and readied for transit. All this carefully planned and packed transfer must be done with an awareness of critical centers of gravity and without damaging the equipment being moved or that remaining behind. Once the retiring piece of equipment is gone, its replacement must be unpacked, prepared and carefully inserted into the now-vacant space in the assembly line. Weights and complications are huge; tolerances and margins of error are tiny.
